Through the ‘Liberian Law fellowships’ the McCall MacBain Foundation and Humanity United is supporting the reconstruction of the judicial system and helping to build legal capacity in Liberia by funding three Lawyers to provide training and pro-bono support work for the Ministry of Justice Liberia. Law fellows have been working at the Ministry of Justice on various issues, such as establishing a Gender Based Violence Unit, concessions negotiations, new legislation on armed robbery, adoption law, commercial contracts, prosecution cases, prison system reform, juvenile justice reform. The Law Fellows programme was renewed in December 2008 and a grant of 186,000 USD was approved to fully fund two Lawyers for the year 2009.
